Native Flora and Rainforest Ecosystems.
Introductory lectures on these subjects combined with field studies are
available for groups. The lectures are presented with clarity and simplicity and
include anecdotal references to illustrate the relevance of botanical study to
everyday life.
Bush Survival Skills.
The self image of Australians as rugged, resourceful survivalists has an
historical base but the current reality is very different. Most live a
thoroughly urban existence in which food comes from supermarkets and
restaurants, clean water from a tap, energy from the flick of a switch and
rubbish and waste automatically disappear of their own accord.
The bush is
almost another planet.
To develop self esteem through learning how to survive in
an unfamiliar environment, to become aware of the fact that humans are but one
living organism among many, to gain insight into the psyche of early pioneers or
to simply acquire knowledge of the bush to satisfy intellectual curiosity are
the objectives of this brief field based course.
Cattle Handling Demonstrations.
In an increasingly structured and technologically advanced society there is
little motivation to acquire the skills of the Australian stockman.
However, for
a small and decreasing number of Australians using such skills is part of
everyday life.
This demonstration of cattle drafting and branding illustrates
that there is more to life than laptop computers, money markets, suits and ties
and BMWs.
