The lake at Bakers Creek Station is well stocked with Australian Bass Yellow
belly and Silver Perch so there's usually something biting. Guests can
feel free to take their catch home, have
the chef prepare it in the Billabong restaurant or cook it in their
own self contained cabin.
See our fishing page for details of our complimentary
offer of accommodation and dinner for catching one of our 'tagged' fish.
Water bird watching and plantings of water lilies, Louisiana iris and lotus appeal
to the more reflective disposition.
The lake and surrounding gardens are home to an incredibly diverse range of bird species. The gardens have been planted with grevilleas, bottlebrushes and other flowering natives. There is an almost continuous supply of nectar for lorikeets, honeyeaters, friarbirds and other nectar eaters.
In the higher reaches of the lake much of the shoreline is vegetated with reed beds providing an ideal habitat for over 16 resident species of waterfowl and many seasonal visitors.
With birds of the wetlands, the rainforest, the grasslands
and the sclerophyll forest Bakers Creek is simply a birdwatchers
paradise.
